In general terms, printmaking is a method for making fine art prints that has been around, in some form, as early as the ninth century. A print is a piece of paper on which a design has been imprinted from a matrix usually made of stone, wood or metal. There are several types of prints. A few examples are a Relief print, where the image is printed from a raised surface on the matrix, and an Intaglio print, where the image is printed from a recessed design in the matrix. There are also other methods for making prints, such as Woodcut & Wood Engraving, Engraving, Etching, Aquatint, Mezzotint, and Lithography
